The typical modern farmhouse house plan adds a rear porch. Some of the older farmhouses have a more traditional layout instead of an open floor plan. The modern farmhouse exterior look often includes board and batten and lap siding.

The familiar board and batten effect is created by placing vertical boards with overlaying narrow strips called battens. A gable roof rests above this gorgeous farmhouse plan with character defining board and batten siding and a lengthy front porch ready to serve a refreshing beverage. However because this is a larger home it offers room for entertaining a gorgeous kitchen layout and much more. These house plans combine the outside appearance of a traditional farmhouse but also give you a more modern open floor plan.
